Measurement of Length, Mass, Capacity and Volume. Kids Fun Time April 30, 2020 Kids Fun Time Measurement of Length, Mass, Capacity and Volume. Measurement of Length The distance between two objects or places is measured as length. The standard unit of length according to the metric system is meter (m). Based on the length that needs to be measured, meter can be converted into different units like millimetre (mm), centimetre (cm) and kilometre (km). • 1 km = 1000 m • 1 m = 100 cm • 1 cm = 10 mm Measurement of Mass Mass is generally the measurement of weight. We measure the mass of an object by measuring the weight of the object. The standard unit of measurement of mass is Kilograms. Three main units of mass considered as Milligram (mg), Grams (g) and Kilograms (kg). • 1 g = 1000 mg • 1 kg = 1000 g Measurement of Capacity Capacity is the amount a container can hold. The oil, juice drink and gasoline containers are just a few examples of objects that illustrate capacity. Capacity is measured in the SI base unit called litres (L). The most common units for capacity are litre (L) and millilitre (mL). • 1 L = 1000 ml Examples:- a. Convert 2 m into cm. Sol:- 2m = 200 cm ( 1 m = 100 cm, 2m = 2x100cm) b. Convert 6.5 m into cm. Sol:- 1 m = 100cm 6.5m = 6.5 x 100cm = 650cm c. Convert 2 km into m. Sol:- 1km = 1000m 2 km = 2 x 1000m = 2000m d. Convert 7 L into ml. Sol:- 1L = 1000ml 7L = 7 x 1000 ml = 7000 ml RECAP • 1 km = 1000 m • 1 m = 100 cm • 1 cm = 10 mm • 1 g = 1000 mg • 1 kg = 1000 g • 1 L = 1000 ml Worksheet of Measurement.
